Helen Minerva Harrell, 89, of Nederland, TX, passed away January 4, 2016. Helen had suffered a stroke in 2009. She was born in Deweyville, TX on May 29, 1926 to Pete and Claricy Hughes.
Helen grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School, then attended business school in Beaumont. She married Dan in November of 1948 and finally settled in Nederland, Texas. Helen worked at Nederland State Bank and also Mid-County Teachers Credit Union for many years. She finally retired to be able to fish and enjoy grandchildren. Helen and Dan attended Calvary Baptist Church in Nederland, where she was very active in her younger years.
Survivors include her husband, Dan M. Harrell; son, Kenneth Wayne and wife, Annie of Beaumont; daughter, Kaye Sanders and husband, Wade of Nederland; grandchildren, Jake Sanders and wife, Allison of Vidor and Kacie Sanders of Nederland. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruby Simmon, Tommie Ditto and Maxine MacAnally.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. with a visitation from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, with Rev. Donald Bean officiating. Interment to follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches.
