Helen "Rie" Swanzy, 70, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Christus St. Mary Hospital. She was born September 24, 1940 in Port Arthur, Texas to James Scott Carr and Alva Barton Carr. A lifelong area resident she was a retired nurse from St. Mary Hospital with 20 years of service. Upon her retirement from St. Mary Hospital, Rie loved reading novels, tending to her greenhouse and caring for her two special cats. She enjoyed sharing as an artist her ability to capture loved ones as she saw them She was preceded in death by her son, Lance Swanzy and brother, James "Buster" Carr. Survivors include two sons, Lane Swanzy of Port Arthur, TX and Linn Swanzy and wife, Judy of Aledo, TX; sister, Carolyn Attaway and husband, Farrell of Plano, TX; brother, Johnny Carr and wife, Pat of Katy, TX; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 14, 2011 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Russell Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will begin Monday morning at 11:00a.m.-1:00p.m. at the funeral home.
