Herman Oscar Johnson, 76, of Nederland, Texas passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017. Herman was born on April 12, 1940 in Pineville, Louisiana to the late Oscar Johnson and Mabel Verheyden Johnson. Herman served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as a pipefitter for the majority of his life and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.
Herman is survived by his wife of 55 years Shirley Whatley Johnson of Nederland, Texas; sons James Johnson and wife Christiana of Beaumont, Texas, and Keith Johnson and wife Frances of Conroe, Texas; daughters Patricia Berwick of Beaumont, Texas, and Annette Nelson and husband Donald of Silsbee, Texas; grandchildren D.J. Berwick, Jonathon Berwick, Amanda Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Daniel Nelson, Kayla Johnson, and Sidney Johnson; great-grandchildren Saylie Nelson, and Stella Berwick; brother Wilbur Johnson of Turlare, California; and sisters Joyce McElroy of Lenden, Washington, and Dean Bartlett of Sugarland, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Dorothy Swint, Mary Lee; and brother Lynn Michael Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas. A gathering of the friends and family will be on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
