Howard Curtis Albers, 94, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022 with his loving wife by his side at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Groves, Texas. Curtis was born in Port Arthur, Texas on July 5, 1928 to the late, Carl Frederick Albers, Sr. and Minnie Kubitz Albers.
In his early years, Curtis played semi-pro baseball with the Boston Red Sox and is said to have enjoyed a good game of golf. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking in his shop, tending to his roses and working in his garden. He loved fishing and spending time with his wife at Lake Toledo Bend in the cabin that he helped build with his father. Most of all, he enjoyed telling stories about all of his past events in his life and of his many adventures.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 45 years, Frances Albers; his daughter, Ann Daniels and her husband, Billy; sons, Mark Hill and his wife, Odette and Thad Hill and his wife, Dana; grandchildren, Aaron Daniels and his wife, Alysha, Josh Daniels and his wife, Tara, and Hope Hill; great-grandchildren, Alexis Daniels, Aspen Daniels, Austyn Daniels and Colton Daniels; sister, Clara “Tootie” Mitchell and her husband, Roland; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Frederick Albers, Sr. and Minnie Kubitz Albers; his brothers, Carl Albers, Jr. and Rev. Walter “Snip” Albers; and his sisters, Irene Huebel and Gloria “Bootsie” Morgan.
The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Oak Grove Nursing Home, Harbor Hospice and Felicia Jones for all of their loving care.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas on Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the funeral service to begin at 3:00 p.m.
