Irene Schamber, 93, of Port Arthur, TX, passed away April 26, 2016. She was born January 4, 1923, in Primrose, NE to the late Frank Stelley and Marie Krumpus Stelley.

Irene worked for many years and retired from J. C. Penney and was also a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Borne and husband, Thad of Port Arthur, TX, Donna Lumpkin and husband, Lee of Port Neches, TX; son, Danny Schamber and wife, Tookie of Rowlett, TX; sister, Marge Killeaney of Oak Harbor, WA; brother, Gene Stelley of Oceanside, CA; sisters-in-law, Dot Stelley of San Marcos, CA, Harriet Schamber of Salem, IN, Laura McCoy of O’Fallon, IL; grandchildren, Brian Ferguson and wife, Cindy, Kenneth Ferguson and wife, Roxanne, Brenda Bauzon and husband, Jerry, Matt Lumpkin and wife, Donna, Bethany Worley and husband Paul, Troy Schamber, Brad Schamber and wife, Maggie, Jeff Daigle, Peggy Selman and husband, Tom, Nancy Choate and husband, Mark, Patti Borne; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Schamber; brother, Earl Stelley; sisters-in-law Carrie Etris and Mae Landry, Fran Stelley; brothers-in-law, Wally Killeaney, Tom McCoy and S. D. Schamber.

A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 12 to 2 p.m. at First Christian Church~5856 9th Ave~Port Arthur, TX. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Scott Wallace and Rev. Jerry Thompson officiating and under the direction of Melancon’s Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church in Port Neches or First Christian Church in Port Arthur in honor of Irene Schamber.
