Irvin John Miller

Irvin John Miller, 94, of Nederland, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in Nederland. Irvin was born on March 25, 1923 to the late Henry Miller and Elizabeth Zwahr Miller in Guy, Texas. Irvin retired from Texas Gulf Sulphur with 30 years of service. Irvin moved to Nederland 1958 and lived in Fort Stockton for 10 years before returning to Nederland in 1986. He served his country in the United States Air Force in WWII and survived the sinking of his ship, HMS Rohna, which had 1900 crew members and only 800 survived, which was the largest single casualty of WWII. Irvin was a member of the American Legion in Nederland and also a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Port Neches.
Irvin is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Bernice Miller of Nederland; daughter, Brenda Piazza and husband, Bill of Huffman; sons, Earl Miller and wife, Myrtis of Port Neches, Jim Miller and wife, Mary, of Beaumont, Don Miller and wife, Debbie of Port Neches and Glenn Miller and wife, Marla of Hemphill; sister, Evelyn Gorka of Rosenberg; he is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brent Miller; great-granddaughter, Grace Chambers; brothers, Paul, Marvin and Eugene Miller and sister, Joyce Miller.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed with the funeral service starting 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Sharon Gazaway officiating at Trinity Presbyterian Church located at 805 Sierra Drive in Port Neches. The burial will be at Oak Bluff Memorial Cemetery in Port Neches under the direction of Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland.
We want to thank the Mid-Jefferson Extended Care Hospital staff for the care and compassion they gave to Dad and our family during his stay. They truly walk in the spirit. Family request in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Port Neches.
