Jack Dorgan, 86, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 in Groves, Texas. He was born July 7, 1930 in Houston, Texas. He was raised in Groves where he was a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School and attended Lamar University, Beaumont. Jack was Assistant Safety Supervisor at Jefferson Chemical, Inc.-Port Neches, and after 27 years of service with Jefferson Chemical, he accepted the position of Manager, Safety Loss & Prevention for Olin Chemical Co., Lake Charles, Louisiana Plant. He was promoted to the Chemicals Group as Manager, Safety Training & Loss Prevention, serving some 38 Olin Plants in the United States and foreign. He was a registered Professional Safety Engineer. His professional memberships included the American Society of Safety Engineers Sabine-Neches Chapter, Safety Council of Southwest Louisiana, Sabine Neches Chiefs of Southeast Texas, Texas Chemical Council, Texas Safety Association, Louisiana Loss Prevention Association, and Safety Society of Southwest Louisiana. He was an instructor at Texas A&M University Fire Prevention-College Station and Fire Training at Lamar University-Beaumont, and Safety Consultant & Expert Witness in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Jack was a member of First Baptist Church Groves and Adult 1 Sunday School class. He formerly served as a Groves Fire Department volunteer, Groves Fire Marshall, part-time commissioned Deputy Marshall for the Groves Police Department, Groves City Councilman Ward One, and Mayor of Groves. He was active in the Texas Municipal League, a Master Mason, Groves Lodge #1315 A.M. 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Galveston Consistory, Naval Reserve, a member of the Buckhorn Hunting Club, and an avid fisherman. A visitation for family and friends will be at 12 Noon on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves and the funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Kenneth Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Jack is preceded in death by his son, Michael Joseph Dorgan; and his parents, John and Mary Dorgan. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Dorgan; four daughters, Cindy (Shane) Kilroy of Houston, Terri Anderson of Houston, Ann (Alvie) Brown of Bridge City, Maribeth (Mark) Rumery of Vinton, LA; six grandchildren, Alysha (Aaron) Daniels, Angela (Kenny) Frank, Adam (Jennifer) Brown, Lindsay (Caleb) Love, Allison Rumery, and Benjamin Rumery; and eleven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
