James M. Bailey

1940 ∼ 2013

James M. 'Tim' Bailey passed away on February 7, 2013, at his Nederland home, among friends and in the care of his family, following a long battle with lung cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. Tim was born at home, on Thomas Blvd in Port Arthur, on September 22, 1940, to Jessie Ruth and James R. Bailey. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1959. He served honorably for four years in the United States Army, as a small weapons armorer. After leaving the Army, he enjoyed racing hot rods with his friends at the Nederland Drag Strip. Tim never remarried. Most people will remember Tim as a Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy, retiring in 2002 after 13 years of dedicated service. His career in law enforcement began as a Patrol Officer for the Perryton, Texas Police Department, where he worked until transferring back to Jefferson County. Tim was also a very experienced pipefitter and welder, and enjoyed a long career in construction before becoming a Police Officer. Tim was an active member of First Baptist Church, Nederland. He attended regularly, and enjoyed lending his time and efforts for special events and activities. He will also be remembered as an avid hunter and shooter. For many years, he served on the Board of Directors for the Golden Triangle Gun Club, where he directed various shooting sports activities. Tim was a wonderful father to two sons, and he enjoyed teaching them his love of hunting and shooting. Tim was preceded in death by both of his parents, and his loving wife of 30 years. He is survived by his brother, G.W. Bailey, of Los Angeles, Ca; his sons Darren Bailey, of Nederland, and Wes Bailey of Bridge City; his daughter-in-law, Tiffany Bailey, of Bridge City; and his three granddaughters Emily, Mallory, and Audrey Bailey, of Bridge City. Wes, when I first started at the gun club in the early 80's your dad was one of the reasons I stayed with competitive shooting. Tim was always good for a lotta laughs every match I went to. Not only was he one of the top winners at every match he always was fun to be around. He always had a wise crack. Always a good joke to keep me laughing. I consider myself very lucky to have known your dad many years. He will be sorely missed.God bless all the Bailey family

Tim is one of those persons I will never forget. I met him while working for the Sheriff's Dept. He helped me out a lot during my time there. He was proud of his sons and spoke of them often as we worked our way through the night shifts together. He will be missed.

To the Bailey Family, Tim was a treasured friend to my dad and worked with him as a pipefitter and welder. I remember years ago when Tim would visit my dad in his office in our garage. He was a great man and great friend. My deepest condolences to the Bailey family.

Dear Darren and Wes, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Tim, your Dad, was a part of my life as I was growing up. Many times, he picked me up from DeQueen Elementary school in his "Plymouth" just like the one in the movie, American Graffiti. I felt so "cool" and all my friends would go to the car with me. The next car I remember was his T-Bird!! I have some fond memories from that time in my life which include your Dad. I know you will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care. Love, Jeanette

TIM WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON. I KNEW HIM WHEN HE WORKED FOR THE SHERIFF'S DEPT. HE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO HELP ME WHEN I FIRST WENT TO WORK AT THE JAIL. HE WAS SO FUNNY! HE HELPED ME LEARN TO WAX THE FLOORS AT THE JAIL. HE EVEN GAVE ME AN OLD JACKET OF HIS WHEN I HAD NONE. A GOOD MAN AND WILL BE MISSED.
