To my cousins Wanda Sue, Dinker and Gwen: Even when we know it is inevitable, we are never really ready to let go. My prayer for you girls and all of y'all's families is that the time will be short from when a sudden remembrance will bring a smile or tears of laughter instead of tears of sorrow. Be comforted in knowing that your cherished father is still surrounded by loving family as he walks with God to our heavenly "family reunion".

To Dinker and Family: I am so sorry to hear of the passing of J.D. I do believe that J.D. is peacefully resting in the loving arms of our God. I pray for his soul to be eternally in heaven. I also pray for your family and loved ones to whom J.D. touched in his life on this earth. May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with each of you. With much love, Mike McKee

Mr. Burchfield was such a supportive grandparent. As Marli's first grade teacher @ RW, I was privileged to get to know him & his wife in a special way that I shall never forget. They were both such thoughtful, generous, & caring people with a lovely family.

JD "adopted" me as his grandson. Thanks for sharing him, John. He was a fine, God-loving man. I will never forget the time I was able to spend with him, John, and the family in west Texas hunting deer. The campfires, stars & shuttles in the sky, and the stories... Jeff

Mr. Burchfield was a fine man that I will miss very much. He was a proud Veteran an always came to my mind on Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Thanks to him, and others like him, we have the freedoms we do today in this great Country. I had the Honor and privilege to spend a short time with him last Memorial Day. For that I am very grateful. He was a "Brother in Arms" and I will always remember him. "American Troops and Veterans are someone who at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for an amount up to and including their life. That check has no expiration date. That is Honor, and far too many people no longer understand or respect this". Leonard Wood (Lenny)
Wanda Sue October 15, 2014
I was the first to make J. D. a daddy and always told him how proud I was to be that one. I learned a lot from him about life and how to survive. I learned from him that I could accomplish anything I wanted as long as I set my mind and faith that I could. He lived a very full life. I am so proud of him being a veteran and serving in WWII. He always took life very serious. He loved nature and being outside working or being out on a deer stand loving nature and what God provided us to be a part of. Everyone knew how strong willed he was and admired and loved that about him. We are all going to miss him. I am very proud to say he is my Dad. Thank you Dad for being who you were. "Sissie"
