James Ralph Davis

James “Jimmy” R. Davis, 90, of Port Arthur, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas.

Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Private Family Ceremony. Visitation will be from 9:00a.m. to 10:00a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.

He was born in Groves, on February 7, 1932, he was the son of William C. Davis and Estelle Dugger Davis. Jimmy Davis was a happy 90-year-old on one aspirin a day, living independently while spending his time with his buddies at Bruce’s Market, his weekly breakfast pals and his regular Tuesday night poker games. Jimmy loved playing football!! Jimmy was one of Port Arthur’s finest high school football players during high school for the SFA Eagles. He was awarded Port Arthur’s Outstanding Back in 1949. He was also invited to the Cleveland Browns Football Team training camp after his playing in days in the Navy.

Jimmy traveled extensively across the continental United States and especially enjoyed his 3 road trips to Alaska with in-laws Don and Bea. He and Hazel wore out 3 large RVs in their adventures. He was a Port Arthur native his entire life and truly loved this city. He retired from Gulf Oil after 35 years of service and loved his job as an expert Machinist. He had many special relationships during his lifetime including Delores Richards and her son Rick Richards and his wife Camille and his friendship with Mae Terro brought a smile to his face and light in his eyes even in his final days.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years Hazel Davis and his two brothers: Billy Davis of Port Arthur and Bert “Dell” Davis of Orange. He is survived by eldest son, Ralph Davis and wife Pam of Kemp, TX; daughters Renee Canizaro of Houston, TX; Phyllis Burris of Port Arthur, TX; youngest son, Mark Davis and wife Rebecca of Coppell, TX; stepson, Donald Church; grandchildren, Erin Zambrano and husband Rick of Fairview, TX; Adam Davis and wife Jules of Aubrey, TX; Carly Benard and boyfriend Kyle McCoy of Brooklyn, New York; Christine Boroch and husband Peter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, and Jeremy Church; great-grandchildren, Declan, Avery, Kimberly, Violet.

Serving as pallbearers will be sons Mark and Ralph Davis, grandson Adam Davis and nephew Clyde Davis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Truly a Good Man and Good Great Uncle. I can't recall one time that I didn't see him with a smile on his face and a kind word to mention. Rest In Peace Uncle Jimmy until we meet again in Heaven.

My deepest sympothy for your loss of a great Guy. We had many a great times at the Tuesday night poker game. When any of his friends needed help, Jim was the first one to show up to help. We will miss him dearly.
