James Camille Forey, a beloved member of his community and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, in Hemphill, Texas. Born on February 4, 1926, in Lafayette, Louisiana, he lived a life rich in service, faith, and devotion to both family and community.
James dedicated an impressive 31 years of his career as a Senior Clerk at Texaco Refinery, demonstrating a remarkable work ethic and commitment that inspired those around him. His contributions extended far beyond his professional duties, as he was also known for his civic-mindedness, serving as a Silver Legislator of the State of Texas—a testament to his dedication to public service and advocacy for his fellow Texans.
Education remained a significant pillar in James's life. He held an Associate degree from Lamar University, which influenced his pursuits and roles throughout his lifetime. His academic achievements laid a foundation for a rich career and a committed approach to lifelong learning.
A man of deep faith, James embraced his Catholic upbringing wholeheartedly. He was a founding member of the Holy Name Society at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where he also served as a Eucharist Minister. Furthermore, he proudly attained the status of a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, showcasing his unwavering commitment to his faith and community service.
In addition to his religious and civic endeavors, James's military service with the US Navy spanned an admirable 42 years, marking him as a patriotic figure dedicated to the defense of his country. His experience and tradition as a naval service member were integral to his identity, fostering resilience and discipline that he carried throughout his life.
James was not only a devoted public servant but also a loving family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pearl Marie Forey, who stood by his side through life's many journeys. He was the proud father of three: Leonard Forey and his wife Hope, Richard Forey and his wife Pattie, and Neysa Sims and her husband Gary, and daughter-in-law, Lori Forey. He found immense joy in watching his grandchildren grow: Leslie Harrison, Laura Forey, Sean Forey, Ryan Forey, Michael Carver, Josh Carver, Eric Sims, Rachel Hanna, Courtney Blankenship, Collin Weber and his wife Jennifer. James is also survived by 15 great grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his parents, Morris and Agnes Forey; his brother, Ernest Forey, and sister-in-law Cora; and his sister, Elaine Gros, with her husband Andy, and his sons, Kenneth Wayne Forey and David Earle Forey, along with his granddaughter, Natalie Sims, and daughter-in-law, Norma Forey.
The memory of James Camille Forey will be honored with a visitation on February 21, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by the funeral service at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, located at 211 Hardy Avenue in Nederland, Texas, starting at 11:30 AM. A burial will follow the service at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
James's life was woven with thread of dedication to family, faith, and service—an enduring testament to a life well-lived and a legacy that will inspire generations to come. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
