James "Jimmy" Laurents

James "Jimmy" Laurents, 87, of Groves, Texas passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019. Jimmy was born June 4, 1932 in Gueydan, Louisiana. He was a lifelong area resident and a very active member of Groves First Baptist Church. Jimmy retired as a foreman from Dupont after 35 years of service, and was a member of Groves Masonic Lodge #1315. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Russell W. Laurents and Anna Barras Laurents; daughter, Patricia Laurents; two brothers, Russell Dickerson and Claude Dickerson. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Sara Laurents of Groves; daughters, Debby Tibbetts and husband Mike of Round Rock, and Shally Hollier and husband Cap of Groves; sisters, Andra Thomason of Amarillo, and Linda Eichblatt of New York; grandchildren, Monica Placette, Ryan Tibbetts and wife Meredith, Rachel Laurents, Melissa Loupe and husband Todd, Brandon Tibbetts and wife Haven, Matt Tibbetts and wife Lauren; sixteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 22, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Groves, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Joe Worley and Reverend Charles Miller officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. It is with heartfelt sympathies for your family in this time. Mr. Laurents was a fine man and he will be truly missed. I remember seeing him often at Blaine's barber shop talking about the INDIANS back when I was in high school. So sorry for OUR loss

Sara and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Jim was a great husband, father and friend. I remember all the time we spent visiting and camping with each others families, what great memories. Jim will truly be missed. I love you guys.
