James “Butch” Phillips Jr was born to Edna and J.W. Phillips Sr on April 5, 1947 in Beaumont, Texas and entered his heavenly rest on March 5, 2023 surrounded by a family that loved him beyond measure.
Butch loved to fish, especially on Toledo Bend Lake. He enjoyed classic cars and trucks, but even more so if they were hot rodded up. If you were around him then you knew he enjoyed music. He had a large collection of music that covered many decades and genres. He was a proud member of Vidor High School class of 1965, a class that was much more like a family. More than anything else Butch loved his God and his family. He loved and was loved and cherished by his wife of 36 years, Janeen. He loved and spoke with pride of his three girls Melissa, Alison and Misty. His greatest earthly treasure were his grandkids. In his eyes they were perfect and could do no wrong. They in turn thought the sun rose and set on their Papa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved father in law, Tootie Coussou.
He is loved and survived by his wife Janeen, his daughters Melissa Wood and Steve Moore, Alison Smith, and Misty Ferguson and husband Jason, his grandchildren Madison Wood, Trinity Wood, Kaley Smith, Halen Smith, Emma Ferguson and Bella Ferguson, his grandchildren of the heart Kaci Gauthier, Evan Landry, and Brynlee Brielle and Brooklyn Morgan. He is also survived by his brother.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Melancon Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2023, at Melancon Funeral Home with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Jason Ferguson, Josh Morton, Steven Morgan, Steve Moore, Halen Smith and Evan Landry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Trosclair, Mike Ingle and Marty Brasseaux.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Marissa and Justin from Hospice Care Team for their care of Butch and support of the family.
