James Lloyd Powell was born June 17, 1924, the youngest of eight children of Chester Amanuel and Ludie Boles Powell of Franklin County, Texas. He attended Como-Picton area schools. James served in the U.S. Army in World War II and later during the Korean conflict. He married Lola Mae Browning April 22, 1948, and they settled in Groves, Texas. James was employed 35 years at Texas U.S. Chemical Corporation. He has been a member of the Groves Masonic Lodge for over fifty years. James and Lola were avid square dancers in Port Neches and Groves, and for many years James was a caller for several area clubs. His friendliness, good humor, and helpful nature endeared him to all who knew him. Having been predeceased by all his siblings, James is survived by Lola Powell, his beloved wife of 62 years, son Brant L. Powell, daughter-in-law Rosemary D'Arc Powell, and grandson Adam Kirk Powell.
