James Spicer Wood

James Spicer Wood, 95 of Groves, Texas passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011. Spicer was born September 23, 1915 in Guanaja, Honduras to Richard Wood and Belle Ebanks Wood. He left the Bay islands to pursue a career as a Merchant Marine. Although his work took him all over the world, he resided in the United States from 1940-1957. He then returned to Guanaja where he married EvaLu Kirkconnell. One of his passions was tending to his farm and raising cattle. After his wife passed away in 2009 he returned to the U.S. where he spent the rest of his years in Groves, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, EvaLu Wood ; brother, Peter Wood; sisters, Eleanor Ebanks, Esther Hyde, Ruth Reeves, and daughter, Carmela Vieau. Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Derrick Routh of Gulf Breeze, FL; step-daughter, Deana Van Voorhees and her husband, Roger of Marble Falls, TX; step-son, Frank Lowery and his wife, Janet of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Ethel Phillips and husband, Heber of Groves, TX, Alice Phillips and husband, Percy of Tampa, FL; brother, Ricardo Wood and wife, Viriginia of Nederland, TX; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Spicer will be sadly missed but never forgotten. May God continue to keep your memories alive in all our hearts until we meet again. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., Thursday morning, August 11, 2011 at Levingston Funeral Home followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Will Klinke officiating. Burial will be at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
