Dr. Jamie Broussard Packman, Ph.D.

Dr. Jamie Broussard Packman, Ph.D., 56, of Nederland, Texas entered into Heaven on Friday, September 17, 2021. Jamie was born on April 20, 1965 in Nederland, Texas to the late Dr. Lessie James “Pop” Broussard and Janette Hudson Broussard. She lived on the same corner in Nederland, where she resided until her death.

Jamie graduated from Nederland High School in 1983. She was in Ned & Company and student body president her senior year. She then attended Lamar University and received a B.S. degree in Sociology, majoring in Biology and Chemistry, as well as a M.S. degree in Nutrition. In 1994, Jamie earned her Ph.D. in Nutrition from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, where she also became a Registered and Licensed Dietitian.

Following her graduation, Jamie began her teaching career as a Professor at Lamar University in Beaumont, and Lamar State Colleges in Port Arthur and Orange, where she taught Nutrition and Health & Wellness courses for 13 years. She retired from teaching in 2009 and worked her own business from home as a self-employed Dietician. She also spent the last 15 years of her life as a member and distributor for Nu-Skin Enterprises, making lifelong friendships and helping many people throughout her career.

Jamie enjoyed traveling, as well as meeting and befriending people from all over the world, and
never met a stranger. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, Ronnie, Payden, and Paxton. She loved attending old car shows with Ronnie, watching Paxton’s Bulldog sporting events, and going to music concerts with Payden. Jamie will always be remembered as a respected educator, loving wife, and encouraging, supportive mother who took care of her family every day of her life.

Jamie was a lifetime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland and participated as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Women’s Guild, and Religious Education teacher.

She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 25 years, Ronald Herbert Packman of Nederland; daughter, Payden Packman; son, Paxton Packman; beloved family dog, Princess; uncle, Rogers Broussard and wife Kathy of Houston; brother-in-law, David Packman of Little Mountain, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Vickie Hernandez of Nederland, Kathy Wood and husband Dean of Nederland, and Deborah Packman of Houston; numerous cousins; godchildren; nephews; niece; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, “Pop” and Janette; brother-in-law, Bryan Packman of Houston; and many aunts and uncles.

A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, March 7, 2022 from 4:00 p.m .to 7:30 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 4:30 p.m. at Melancon's Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches with Father Jim McClintock officiating with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.

Following the Mass on Tuesday, the family is inviting friends and family to Hebert Hall at the church for food and fellowship.
