Jane Elizabeth Hammock

1946 ∼ 2023

Jane Elizabeth Hammock, 76, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born on August 20, 1946 in Port Arthur, Texas to Fay (Lee) and Thomas W. Hargrave.

Jane spent the majority of her career at Huntsman Corporation as a Process Operator and retired in 2005. One of her main hobbies in life was playing & competing in various pool leagues & tournaments, making her way to finals in Las Vegas on numerous occasions. Crafting of nearly any kind was also a great talent of hers, leaving many of us with handmade treasures to cherish forever. However, hosting home gatherings & feeding people was one of her most favorite things to do as having family & friends together was very important to her and made her heart happy.

She was also stubborn, and hard-headed to a fault, but gave her everything to her friends, family, and loved ones. Known as “Maw Maw Jane” to all the kids and many adults as well, Jane had a heart as big as the ocean and a personality and aura that automatically drew people to her. She was the glue, guiding light and Grand Matriarch of her large, blended family. Her love was vast, and she was loved and adored by a legion of people who truly thought the world of her. She was legendary in our sight with no other truly like her. Her legacy on earth will certainly be challenging to live up to.

When she became ill, she embraced what was coming and spent her last month’s speaking to and trying to prepare her family for her passing. It may have helped ‘a little’, there are certainly things she and some of us were able to say & do when otherwise you may not get that very valuable chance in life… although nothing could really prepare us for this extreme pain and void that now fills us all. She was ready to meet Jesus and very clear about her excitement and eagerness to do so. She was not shy in wanting all of us to know her deep desire to make sure all her loved one’s find & accept Jesus Christ as their savior.

Time fails us to share the magnitude of stories of her crazy, kind, and profound acts. There are certainly many amongst family, friends, co-workers and strangers alike. She was certainly one-of-a-kind wherein none can compare. If you never had the chance to meet her, you have truly missed out on something wonderful.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Erik Brandon Perry; brother, Thomas Warren Hargrave and sister, Linda Fay Rinehart.

Those left to cherish Jane’s memory are her loving husband of fifteen years, Floyd Hammock of Nederland, TX; daughters, Selene Payne and husband, Darren of Nederland, TX; Teresa Sartor and husband, John of Nederland, TX; Rebel LeBlanc and husband, Dennis of Bridge City, TX; stepdaughters, Rebecca Diane Jones of Nederland TX, Pamela Sue Lancon of Katy TX, Lisa Renee Hammock of Phoenix AZ, and Joanna Ford of Euless TX; grandchildren, Meagan Musick and husband, Josh; Christopher Hoffpauir and wife, Amy; Brianna Lummus and husband, Kevin; Nikolas Hoffpauir, Brittany LeBlanc, Denise Hamrick, Chasity Ellett and husband, Levi and Amber Thomas and husband, Patrick; step grandchildren, Amber Potter, Jason Jones and wife, Sherri; Trevor Lancon and wife, Karen and Jude Ford; seventeen great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; sister, Regina Gouthier and husband, Will; best friend, Malinna Steele; and a host of many more family & friends.

Our beloved Jane August 1946 - February 2023 My own rendition of the "Dash Poem": Here to honor someone beautiful, Whose life we won’t forget, As we now have the exact dates, From the beginning to the end. Joy came with her date of birth, And with death came many tears, But what really matters most, Is that dash between the years. That little dash contains all the time, That she spent on earth, And those who know and love her, Know what that little dash is worth. We all know how much she loved, And how she liked to laugh, How she made life so beautiful, Within her little dash. Always try to keep in mind, What little time we have, And what truly matters most, Is how we spend our dash. Thinking back on her life, And all the memories we have, I’m grateful to have been a part, Of her little dash.
