Janet Lynn Counterman, age 66, of Nederland, Texas, passed away on January 20th at 3:37 p.m. while receiving care at Kindred Hospital in Houston, Texas.
She was born to the late Gene and Dorothy Crawley, September 5, 1947 in Greencastle, Indiana.
Jan graduated from Greencastle High School in 1965. She married Wayne Counterman of West Terre Haute, Indiana, August 9, 1967. This truly began a story of love, loss, commitment, companionship, and of course, “reasoning loudly” with one another on more than one occasion.
Jan was a faithful member of Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Port Arthur, TX for over 33 years and daily expressed her love and loyalty to her pastor, Rev. Randy Hammer, as well as her unwavering support of a church family that never let her down. She fulfilled many roles in the church during her 33 years and put 100% of her heart and soul into everything she was a part of.
Jan was a very upbeat and outgoing person. Her faith in God made her a person that could see beyond the circumstances of life. She was far too busy planning what she was going to do with that 10% chance of sunshine and never allowed the 90% chance of rain to factor in to the days God had blessed her with. Jan never became so consumed with searching for the pot of gold, that she missed on the opportunity to look at the rainbow. Her life should be a lesson to each of us.
She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Counterman of Nederland, TX; Daughter, Jill Hawkins of Port Neches, TX; Three grandchildren, Lacey Coon and husband, Dallas of Kerrville, TX; Trey Hawkins and Zane Hawkins of Port Neches, TX; Three great-grandchildren, Denver, Devon, and Denim Coon; one brother, Larry Crawley and wife, Cheryl of Sun City, Arizona.
Serving as pallbearers are Trey Hawkins, Zane Hawkins, Dallas Coon, Tom Novak, Keith Grassick, and Brent Lawrence.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Port Arthur, TX. A memorial will take place at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will begin 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church, Port Arthur, TX. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County.
