A native Houstonian, Janice Hamble Kringel was born in 1935 at Methodist Hospital. Janice grew up in Houston, attended Lamar High School and graduated from the University of Houston as a Registered Nurse. Janice always said the best day of her life was when Dave Heinrich, a dental student and hospital orderly, introduced her to his fraternity brother Roland Kringel. Roland and Janice were married in 1955 and moved to Port Arthur, TX. Roland started a Pediatric Dental practice in 1956 and Janice assisted him in the office. Roland and Janice had four children, Michael, Kirk, Mary Kathryn, and Robin. Janice's family was her priority, and she was supportive of Roland and the children in their activities. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout leader, active in the Parents Association of the Boy Scout Troop, took care of 2-year-old children with Roland on Sunday mornings at Church and was a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church. She was always ready with arms outstretched for her family, neighbors, and church. Janice enjoyed the traveling she and Roland did with family and friends. She cherished memories of her friends, family and all the adventures life had to offer. She was considered a precious treasure to many she encountered. A determined individual, she was always up for a challenge and a new travel adventure. In 2017 Janice and Roland moved from Groves, TX to Cypress, TX to be closer to family. Janice was not thrilled with the new house in Cypress, but it soon became a waterfront oasis she wouldn’t part with. With the oasis came new friends that she adopted as part of her family. It had been hard leaving her friends and church family at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Port Neches, but she began a search for a new Church home. Her mobility began to slow her down, limiting her ability to attend services in person, but technology opened new doors. She discovered Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church’s on-line Sunday service and would watch services with her son Michael. The year 2020 was hard on many families and the Kringels were not immune to tragedy. While not COVID related, Roland went to live with his Lord and Savior on April 5, 2020, Palm Sunday, at the age of 95. Six months later God called Janice's daughter Mary Kathryn, age 58, to come home. In 2023 Janice suffered a stroke that put her in an assisted living facility. The stroke slowed her down for several months, but she was determined to return to her oasis in Cypress. Janice always said she had lived a wonderful life and did not fear death. She looked forward to life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Janice passed away at the age of 88 on February 9, 2024.
Janice was preceded in death by her mother Dorrace Hamble, father William “Bill” Hamble, brother Clay Hamble, husband Roland Kringel, and daughter Mary Kathryn Mitchell.
