Janice Iris Engholm Romero, 66, of Jarrell, Texas passed away September 2, 2018 at
St. David’s Hospital in Georgetown, Texas.
Mrs. Romero was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas but in the last year of her life, she moved to her family farm in Jarrell, Texas.
She was a 1969 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and a 1969 graduate of Chenier Business School, after which, she worked for the Sunbeam Bread Company. She also attended Lamar University Beaumont as a history major, which she loved. She was a life long member of the Lutheran Church. She had attended Good Shepard in Port Arthur, Holy Cross in Nederland, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Arthur. She served as Sunday School Secretary, taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School and she also served as the Youth Group Sponsor.
Mrs. Romero was a certified pharmacy technician and she worked for Park Place Hospital in Port Arthur. She also worked for Durso’s Pharmacy, Cambridge Pharmacy, and Gulf Employees Pharmacy. She also worked for Dr. Jack Taylor and Dr. Richard Schleiffer.
Janice is preceded in death by her brothers, Gary Engholm and Brian Engholm; her mother, Alma Johanna Eickenhorst Engholm and her father, Timotheus “T. G.” Gerhardt Engholm.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Preston Anthony Romero of Jarrell, Texas; her daughters, Regan Johanna Romero of Port Arthur and Jessica Erin Romero Cobb and her husband, Corey James Cobb and her grandson, who she adored, Zephyr Preston Cobb.
Janice was strong, beautiful, smart, loving and funny. She loved animals, just like her own mother and they were a big part of her life. She wrote poetry and she consistently put others needs before her own. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will be greatly missed.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
