Janice Ruth Scott Ballard, 75, of Vidor, Texas and formerly of Groves passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Vidor.
Janice was born on October 8, 1945, in Port Arthur, Texas to Ruth Wyone Noble Scott and Billie Jack Scott. She was a retired United States Army Veteran having served for six years. Janice was the first woman to serve in the first female combat trained unit for the United States Army. Janice was also a retired case manager for Educare and was in the Healthcare industry for over twenty years. She enjoyed cooking, camping, gardening and just being outside in her yard or just being out and about. Janice also loved to go riding on the back of motorcycles with whoever she could find. She loved canning fruits and vegetables and was known for her strawberry jam. Janice loved cats and always had one living with her but mainly she enjoyed her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Janice is survived by her daughters, Buffie Champagne and Amanda Sandoval both of Vidor; sisters, Carol Moon and her husband Donald of Nacogdoches and Mary Stanley of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren, Christian Champagne, Avery Champagne, Zachary Champagne and Jaci Sandoval; great grandchildren, Lena Champagne, Ivy Champagne and Bishop Champagne.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Billie and Ruth Scott.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 4 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Melancon Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas. A “Celebration of Life” Memorial Service to Honor the Life of Janice Ruth Scott Ballard will follow at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Melancon Funeral Home. Military Graveside Services will be conducted at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Houston National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
