Obituary

Jeanette Landry

Jeanette Landry, a cherished cook and beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, in Port Arthur, Texas. Born on September 19, 1940, in Abbeville, Louisiana, Jeanette dedicated her life to nurturing those around her—not merely through her cooking, which she adored, but through the love and warmth she shared with her family and friends.

Jeanette's culinary journey began as a cook at Sycamore School, where she worked diligently for five years, leaving a lasting impact on the students she served. She later retired from Port Neches Groves Independent School District after dedicating over twenty years of service as a cook, a role that allowed her to touch the lives of many young people in her community. Her passion for cooking was not simply a career, but a reflection of her caring spirit—a way for her to unite those around her over a meal, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Jeanette is survived by her beloved daughter, Kristi Landry of Port Neches, her granddaughter Jordyn Collida and husband Ricky, Jr. and her great-grandchildren Easton, Levi and Chloe Collida; her son, Mark Landry and his wife Ericka of Leroy, Louisiana, her granddaughter Hannah Landry and great-granddaughter Ansley Romero. She also leaves behind her dear sisters, Cecelia Esqueda, Zita Downs, Sharon Haines, Jodella Netterville, Leona Little and Vickie Crochet, with whom she shared many cherished moments and life lessons. Bonus family including Tara Hickey, Becky Dowden, and Kim Conkle as well as her cherished grandchild, Kelsey Morgan and her husband Josh and her adored great-grandchildren, April Mae and Rikki Leigh.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 53 years, Gaynor Landry, whose love and partnership shaped her life. She will be joining her sister, Myrtis Dailey, Brother, Watson David, as well as her sisters Yvonne Anderson, Lillian Graham, and Val Runte, who have surely welcomed her with open arms.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jeanette’s life at the visitation on October 9, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, followed by a Rosary at 1:30 PM, and a funeral service at 2:00 PM. All services will take place at the Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 2001 Nall St, Port Neches, TX, 77651.

Jeanette Landry’s legacy will live on through the love she cultivated in her kitchen and the hearts she touched with her kindness and compassion. She will be deeply missed yet fondly remembered by all who were privileged to know her.
