Jerry L. Dowden, 84, of Nederland, Texas passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022. Jerry was born November 10, 1937, in Port Neches, Texas to Walter Dowden and Jewel Green Dowden.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran. Jerry was a loyal member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local union number 479 for more than 50 years. He relished being outdoors, whether gardening, camping or photographing God’s canvas. Always the pied piper, Jerry was ever a child at heart and loved telling stories and spending time with the kids, especially his treasured grandchildren.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jewel Dowden; son, Mark Dowden; grandchildren Walt and Millie Wimer; and brothers, Bill Bess, Jim Dowden and Wayne Dowden.
Those left behind to cherish Jerry’s memory are his loving wife of forty-nine years, Patty Dowden of Nederland, TX; daughters, Cindy Holstien of Winnie, TX; and Sara Wimer and her husband, Andre of Port Neches, TX; grandchildren, Jessica Dowden, Jenny McWilliams and her husband, Stephen, Mya Wimer, and Kirby Wimer; great grandchildren, Mason Robinson, Averie McWilliams and Talon McWilliams; sisters, Carolyn Jamail and Bernice Elgar and her husband, David; brothers, Ralph Dowden and Rusty Dowden; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jerry’s family would like to thank his wonderful nurses and caretakers, Jennifer, Chris, Linda, and his dream girl Washington. He loved you all.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with a service following at 12:00 p.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, with full military honors to be provided by Southeast Texas Veteran’s Service Group.
