Reverend Jesse H. Atkinson, Jr., 77 of Groves, Texas passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Memorial Hermann Southeast in Houston, Texas. He was born October 19, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to Jesse Hobson Atkinson, Sr. and Mary Emily Mitchell Atkinson. He was a longtime area resident and member of Bethel Temple. He was a retired teacher from Nederland ISD with 20 years of service, and also an Eagle Scout, Scout Master, and U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Guidry; grandson, Philip Childree; great-granddaughter, Sophie Sadler; and great-grand baby, Tad Lumpkin. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Gilbert Atkinson of Groves; daughters, Karon Jackson and husband, Keith of Groves, Jo Childree and husband, Steve of Port Neches, Dee Smiley and husband, Duane "Bubba" of Groves; son, Micah Atkinson and wife, Bambi of Hondo; grandchildren, Westley Jackson and wife, Kathy, Stephanie Sadler and husband, Darrell, Ginger Lumpkin and husband, Caleb, Amber Smiley, Brett Smiley and wife, Morgan, Chelci Atkinson, Meghan Atkinson, Jana Atkinson, Annabel Atkinson, Harley Atkinson; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Kyle, Kayleigh, Cheyanne, Josie, Hayden, Adonis, Caiden, and Mavis. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Ralph Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
