Joe Henry Bailey, 91, of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at his residence in Port Arthur.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Officiating will be Chaplin Robert Pitre. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.
Joe was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on May 6, 1932, to Walter Bailey and Margaret Hitt-Bailey. Joe was a scout leader in his early days, a Korean War Veteran, VFW Member, Fisherman, and a 3rd generation Bricklayer. Joe was a true craftsman and enjoyed sharing his knowledge. He took pride in those he trained and mentored through the trade, especially his sons Joe and Jeff and grandson Kasey. Joe' family ties ran deep. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather. Most of all Joe was a loyal husband. When Doris became ill with Alzheimer’s, Joe cared for her every day for her last fifteen years of life. He never left her side. Doris never missed her morning coffee or evening ice cream. Joe was truly one of a kind and never met a stranger. He was loved and will be deeply missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Doris Bailey; his sons, Joe H. Bailey Jr.; and Bradley Bailey; Brice Bailey; and Zach Bailey; his brothers, James Bailey, Robert Bailey, Donald Bailey, Johnny Bailey, Ronald Bailey Jackie Bailey, and Tommy Bailey; his sister, Julia Evans.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl French and husband Reggie of Groves, Texas; and his daughter in law, Gwendolyn Bailey of Port Arthur, Texas; his son, Jeff Bailey and wife Chel of Humble, Texas; grandchildren, Kasey Bailey, Kinzi Broussard and husband Greg, Taylor Lazarus and husband Don Michael, Randa Sampere and husband Ryan, Justice Guidry, Alex Bailey, and Cheyanne French; great-grandchildren, Damian; Kaleb; Gage; Brylie; Cayden; Skylar; Jade; his brothers, Buddy and Paul Bailey; and sisters, Louise Jones; Betty Lou Saunders; Janie Sue Nicotre; Dorothy Ann Elkins; and Deborah Fugate.
