Joe Douglas Hawsey, 82, of Groves, Texas passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. Joe was born July 19, 1935 in Port Arthur, Texas to Fred Carl Hawsey and Geraldine Andrews Hawsey. Joe was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1953 and Lamar University in 1957. He was a member of the United Methodist Temple and Wesley Sunday School Class. He retired from DuPont in 1987 as purchasing agent. After retiring he became the owner of Specialty Crate & Pallet until 1997. Joe proudly served in the U. S. Army Reserve. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Michael Hawsey. Survivors include his wife, Joyce "Cookie" Hawsey of Groves, TX; daughter, Jodee Jones and husband Warren of Pearland, TX; daughter-in-law, Melissa Hawsey of Welch, LA; grandchildren, C. J. Howton, Wyatt Hawsey, Rachel Jones, and Jordan Jones. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 16, 2018 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Guy Williams officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
