PORT ARTHUR - Joe Floyd Moore passed from this life on June 27, 2011 at his home in Port Arthur, Texas. He was born September 24, 1922 in Woodland, Mississippi to Floyd Eugene and Annie May Smith Moore. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his first wife, Carrie Jane. He graduated form Woodland High School in Woodland, Mississippi in 1940. He then trained as a machinist at the William R. Moore College of Technology in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1944, after the outbreak of World War II, he was called to serve in the United States Navy spending most of his time in the Pacific. After leaving the navy he attended Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, Tennessee and later, Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas where he majored in Bible and minored in English. After leaving Harding in 1953 he began work as an evangelist preaching for various churches of Christ in the southern United States. In 1965 he moved to Texas and returned to working full time as a machinist but continued to preach part time. In 1977 he moved to Port Arthur, Texas and in 1981 was asked to serve as an Elder for the Imhoff Ave. church of Christ in Port Arthur. In 1988 he retired from Sabine Towing and Transportation but continued to work there as a machinist part time until 1992. He continued to serve as an elder for Imhoff Ave. until 2010. In 1943 he was joined in marriage to his first wife, Carrie Jane Votaw of Vidor, Texas. In March of 1972 his beloved Carrie passed away. In 1975 he married Marcella Bailey Ensey of Port Arthur, Texas with whom he lived until his death. He is survived by his sisters Doris Armstrong of Beaumont, Texas; Eloise Hampton of Tupelo, Mississippi; and Audry Thomas of Jackson, Mississippi; daughter Velda Prince of La Porte, Texas; daughter Molly Klemas and husband Gary of Pensacola, Florida; sons Steve B. and Joe E. Moore both of Port Arthur, Texas; son Kenneth R. Moore and wife Judy of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, four great grand children, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 30th at the Levingston Funeral Home located at 5601 39th St. in Groves, Texas. The funeral service will be conducted at the same facility on Friday, July 1st at 10:00 AM. Minister H. L. Collett of the West Groves church of Christ and Mr. Moore's son, Kenneth R. "Ken" Moore will officiate. Congregational singing will be lead by David DeYoung. Internment will be at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas. The family would like to offer special thanks to Joe and Marcella's care giver, Susanah Hernandez, who faithfully saw to the needs of the Moore's and treated them with all the affection she would have for her own family.
