Joe Z. Ramirez, 91, of Kountze, Texas. passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 in Beaumont, Texas. Joe was born on August 28, 1932, in Victoria, Texas to the late, Navis and Maria Ramirez.
Joe was a true cowboy heart. He found joy in breaking horses and calf roping. He was a mechanic with 42 years of service and owner of Spindletop Auto in Beaumont, Texas along with his brother, Ray. Beyond his passion for mechanics and cowboy life, Joe was also a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys football team.
Joe was a dedicated parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland, Texas. His life was colored with vibrant memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him best. Joe's love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew no bounds; they were his pride and joy. In his spare time, he could be found fishing, tending to his garden, watching red birds, feeding squirrels, cooking up delicious meals, and earning a reputation for his mouthwatering barbecue crabs. Working on cars was not just a job for Joe; it was a cherished pastime that brought him endless satisfaction and joy.
Joe is survived by his daughters, Estelle Cabra and husband, Kirk of Kountze, Texas., and Betty Ramirez of Bridge City, Texas; son, John Calamia and wife, Cayla of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren Josh Cabra and wife, Taylor, Courtney Fuqua and husband, Brandon, Caylan Calamia Moshier and husband, Alex, and Katy Calamia; great-grandchildren, Easton Cabra, Aiden Cabra, Noah Cabra, Grace Becker, Brantley Fuqua, and Brenham Fuqua, brothers, Roy Ramirez, Bobby Ramirez, Lupe Ramirez, and Ruben Ramirez; and his sister, Theresa Adams.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Navis Ramirez; his wife, Mayme "Joyce" Ramirez; his first wife, Betty Sue Ramirez; sister, Jane Welch; and brothers, Rudy Ramirez and Ray Ramirez.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 9:00am - 11:00am at Melancon~Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland with a Rosary at 10:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church located at 211 Hardy Avenue in Nederland at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland. His memory will continue to live on through the stories shared by those who knew and loved him dearly.
