John E. “Johnny” Cormier, 75, of Groves, Texas, passed away on February 9, 2024, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches, followed by a rosary at 10:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Officiating will be Reverend Jim McClintock. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches.
Born in Nederland, Texas, on August 3, 1948, he was the son of John B. Cormier and Emalie LeMaire Cormier. John enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Machinist Mate 3 (MM3). For two years, (1966-1968) he was stationed onboard the USS Sproston DD 577 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. His time in the Navy took him on nine cruises to Vietnam and allowed him to serve in various other countries such as the Philippines five times, Midway twice, and Hong Kong, Australia, and Japan once. John also served on the USS Lofburg 759 from 1968 to 1969, and was also stationed in Long Beach, California. After his remarkable tour in the Navy, John continued his commitment to serving his nation by joining the Army Reserve. His dedication and loyalty were evident throughout his military career. After his military career he went to work for Texaco for about thirteen years, then went on to work for Port Arthur Steam Energy (PACE) as a process operator and retired after thirty-three years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Emalie Cormier; his brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and June Cormier; and his sister, Gloria Cormier.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Cheryl Cormier; his children, Laura Arvizo and husband, Paul of Mauriceville, David Poss and wife, Heather of Groves, Kevin Cormier and wife, Amanda of Beaumont, and Tonya Tarver and husband, Carl of Groves; his grandchildren, Dail Mayfield and wife, Carley, Cameron Mayfield, Gabriella Arvizo, Payton Poss, Lillian Poss, Sebastian Johnson and wife, Akela, Johnathan Tarver and wife, Rebecca, Ashlyn Cormier, Addyson Cormier, and Ava Cormier; his great-grandchildren, Jeter Mayfield, Drue Mayfield, Cole Johnson, Wyatt Vincent, Jasmine Jones, and Johnathan Tarver, Jr.; his sister, Sandra Gail Cooley and husband, Jeff of Groves; his brother, Larry Wayne Cormier and wife, Johnna of Silsbee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Poss, Paul Arvizo, Kevin Cormier, Johnathan Tarver, Dail Mayfield, and Cameron Mayfield. Serving as Honorary pallbearer is Sebastian Johnson.
