John E. McMahon, III

1944 ∼ 2021

John E. McMahon, III, 77, of Groves passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Mid-Jefferson Beaumont.

He was born January 21, 1944 in Edinburg, Texas to the late John E. McMahon, Jr. and Alleen Elvis McMahon. John is also preceded in death by his brother, Charles McMahon and son, Clinton Jones.

John was a lifelong resident of Groves and graduate of Port Neches Groves High School. He was a member of First Baptist Groves for over 75 years, but mostly importantly John loved the Lord and loved sharing his love of Jesus with others.

John proudly served in the U. S. Airforce during Viet Nam and was a member of the Honor Guard for Southeast Texas Veteran's Service Group, performing military funeral services for area veterans. He is also a Lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 27 of Beaumont, Texas.

He worked at DuPont Beaumont Works for 32 ½ years, but has had a passion for barbering for over 60 years. He loved to have conversations with all his friends, especially the guys at the Garage.

His hobbies were gardening, fishing, hunting, leatherwork, sewing caps, collecting KNIVES and BUCKETS! His "therapy" was working on lawnmowers, weed eaters and helping to make crosses from railroad spikes with the guys from Adult 3.

A visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 27, 2021 at First Baptist Church Groves. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Joe Worley and Reverend Charles Miller officiating.

John is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Anna Lee McMahon of Groves, son, John Patrick McMahon and wife Laurie of Magnolia and granddaughters, Corinne "Cam" McMahon and Carly Croston and Holly Croston.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make memorial contributions may send them to: First Baptist Church Groves, Joyce's Pantry, 4000 Grant Avenue, Groves, Texas 77619.

Condolences

We have shared many many meals, holidays and vacations together with you and Anna. I can say you were my husband, Gene and son, Brian's BEST friend. Brian thought the world of you and so did Gene. One of my favorite memories is when Brian wore his black leather jacket with sunglasses out to eat and you met us wearing your ORIGINAL black leathers aNd sunglasses . That will always bring a smile. I will remember your prayers and how you truly cared for so many. You had a BIG heart and even towards the end, you would tell Ann to "tell everybody I love them". Love you John. We will be helping watch over Anna. Don't worry! -colleen kessel

Until then, find those fishing spots in Heaven, so we can go "Fishing in the sky"! I love you, John Patrick McMahon (Your Son)

It has been years since I have seen John, but if I close my eyes, I can still see his sweet smile. He was kind and generous, a spirit filled man who loved the Lord. He will be missed, but he will always be in our hearts.
