John “JD” Evans, 62, of Nederland, Texas passed away on January 20, 2021 in Beaumont, Texas.
JD was born in Port Arthur, Texas to Glen and Dawanna “Dee” Evans on June 23, 1958. He was a graduate of the Port Neches-Groves Class of 1976 and worked as a board operator at various area refineries for over thirty years until he eventually retired.
JD was a beloved husband, father, PawPaw, brother, and friend, among others. When he wasn’t shift working or fixing things, he was found outside in the pool or in his recliner reading the newspaper or watching sports. JD was an avid fan for all things Astros, Cowboys, and Rockets, but he especially supported the local PN-G athletes. He played and lettered in golf in his high school days and loved to follow the current and past athletes of all sports at PN-G. In fact, he rarely missed a PN-G football game and kept “Cherokee” on his regularly played music-for-cooking playlist. JD was a true example of what it meant to have that purple pride!
Visitation will be Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 5:00-8:00 at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 25, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Melancon’s Funeral Home with Pastor Carl Durden and Father Stephen McCrate officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, TX; however, in lieu of flowers and plants, the family kindly asks that you offer a donation to the John “Denny” Evans Memorial Scholarship fund. It only seems right to honor JD’s support for PN-G athletics by carrying his legacy forward to a PN-G student athlete. The family will choose a 2021 senior athlete of PN-G high school to receive the scholarship in his honor. To make a donation visit gofundme.com/f/gofundmecomfjd-evans-memorial-scholarship.
