John Taft Foy, 51 of Port Neches, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024 in Port Arthur, Texas. He was born on October 26, 1972, in Nederland, Texas, to his father, John Melvin Foy III and his mother, Sherry Bussey Martin.
Taft was a graduate of Port Neches Groves High School, Class of 1991. He pursued a career as a professional Cosmetologist, where he amazed his clients with his cutting edge cuts and his knowledge of the latest hair color crazes.
Those who knew Taft will remember him as a true cowboy that lived life to the fullest and marched to the beat of his own drum. He had an extraordinary ability to get along with everyone he met, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. He was truly one of a kind.
Taft had a multitude of talents, he was an adventurous and daring guy who could charm the ladies with that million dollar smile. His love for the outdoors consisted of bike riding, hunting, fishing, calf roping, and an occosional trip to the beach or lake. He was known for spending time with family and friends usually with an ice cold beer in his hand whether he was watching the Dallas Cowboys, or sitting around a campfire. Also, he was an avid fan of the PNG Indians whether they were winning or losing he stood by them. Most of all, he cherished the years he had with his beloved son Collin. He was his pride and joy and the light of his life.
Taft is survived by his mother, Sherry Martin and her husband, Mike of Port Neches; sister, Laurie Foy; stepbrothers, Jeff an Wayne Martin; nephews, Drake Martin and Judd Martin; cousins, Jeff Boudreaux, Charlie Gallagher, and Shelley Hall; aunt, Kay Boudreaux; uncle, Jerry Boudreaux; lifelong friend Ricky Broussard and a multitude of extended family members and other countless friends.
Taft is preceded in death by his grandparents John and Ida Foy, Charlie and Fannie Bussey; father, John Melvin Foy, III, his son, Matthew Collin Foy and his loyal companion, Buzzy, his dog.
A gathering of family and friends to honor and celebrate Taft's life will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Melancon~Levingston Funeral Home located at, 2001 Nall St, Port Neches, Texas. May we gather together to share memories and reminisce and to pay our respects to a one of a kind individual who brought lots of laughs into the lives of those he touched.
Taft fought a long battle with Huntington's disease but left a positive legacy by living each day to the fullest. He is the fifth member of his family to be taken by this horrible disease. It is his and his families wishes to spread awareness about Huntington's disease, simply for people to know that HD is a genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. HD is an illness caused by a faulty gene in your DNA - the biological ‘instructions’ you inherit which tell your cells what to do.
