John Mayo Wells, Jr. John Mayo Wells, Jr., 71, of Nederland, Texas passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. He was born on September 20, 1941 in Port Arthur, Texas to John Mayo Wells, Sr. and Clara Lois Creighton Wells. John was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was a life member of VFW Post #797, M.O.C., Marine Corps Combat Helicopter Association, and member of H.M.M. 364 Purple Foxes. He retired from the United States Marine Corps after 20 years of service in 1979. In 2004 he retired from Lamar University after 15 years in facilities management. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen Janssens Wells of Nederland, two daughters, Elizabeth Wells of San Antonio, TX., and Claire Wells of Nederland, TX., son, Charles Wells of San Antonio , TX., and two brothers, James Wells and wife, Freddie of Austin , TX., and Thomas Wells, Sr. and wife, Peggy of Belton, TX. I did not know John but do have something in commom, we both served in HMM 364 but a few years apart. However we are all Marine Family and very sorry to hear of your loss. He is probably talking to other Marines and telling all kinds of sea stories.
