Johnie Ruth Cutrer went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning, January 3, 2010 at her daughter's residence. She was born on April 28, 1926 in Merryville, LA. Johnie moved to the Mid County area in her early years, and attended school in Nederland where she graduated with honors. She had three children with her husband, Leon. After that she returned to school in 1965, and graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in English. She started her teaching career at Bowie Junior High in Beaumont in 1969. Then in the fall of that year she went to work at Central Junior High in Nederland until she retired in 1990. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Port Neches and did volunteer work at Mid-Jefferson Hospital in Nederland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Port Neches with burial to follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Dr. David Mahfouz of First Baptist Church, Port Neches will be officiating. The Deacons of First Baptist Church , Port Neches will be serving as honorary pallbearers. A visitation for family and friends will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches. A lifelong resident of Port Neches , she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon M. Cutrer and grandson, Jonathan Paul Cutrer. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca S. Ramke of Port Neches; two sons, Douglas P. Cutrer of Port Neches and Robert G. Cutrer of Spring, Tx.; grandson, Jeffery P. Cutrer of Louisville, Ky.; and sister, Whitman "Finnie" Rimes of Lake Charles, La. Special thanks to her nurse caretaker, Helen Carrier of Port Arthur. Rebecca, I was so sorry to hear that your mother had passed away. I have fond memories of her from my school days. She was one of my favorite teachers and a great influence in my life. My love and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow
