A Life Remembered

Obituary

Johnny L. Pittman, born on October 6, 1935, in Lena, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, in Nederland, Texas.

Johnny's early life was marked by frequent moves as his father worked on the pipeline. It was in Brownwood, Texas, that he met and married the love of his life, Julia Ann Low, in 1955. Together, they shared 70 years of marriage and raised four children.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy reserves, receiving his discharge in 1962.

Johnny enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout his life. After his drag-racing days, he became an avid freshwater fisherman, participating in tournaments and building a cabin on the lake. At the age of 61, Johnny gave his life to Christ, a moment that profoundly changed him. He found joy and fellowship in the Celebration and Senior Choirs at First Baptist Church of Nederland. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and a generous supporter of his church and various charitable organizations.

He retired from DuPont Beaumont Works in 1993 after 34 years as a welder. Even in retirement, he continued to weld, building and selling trailers.

Johnny was a loving husband, father, and friend. He was known for his warm welcome, a listening ear, and a ready cup of coffee for anyone who stopped by.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Julia A. Pittman, and their children: Roy Lee Pittman and his wife, Deborah; John Lester Pittman and his wife, Donna; Effie Rojo and her husband, Lyndon; and Sarah LaBure and her husband, Mike.

He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Johnny Dale and his wife, Lauren; Jesse Keffer; Jordan Welch and her husband, Matt; Michael LaBure; and Jason LaBure and his wife, Stephanie. His great-grandchildren include Avery Pittman, Jayden Pittman, Lyla Welch, Ava LaBure, Layla LaBure, Stevie Kay LaBure, Maddox Lambert, Mateo Alvarez, and AJ Carrillo.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Effie Pittman; his siblings, Billie D. Pittman, Roy "Pee Wee" Pittman, Shirley Whiteside, Lois Corrigan, and Joyce Huff; and his granddaughter, Jana Rae Pittman.

A visitation to honor Johnny Pittman will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas, 77627.
