A Life Remembered

Obituary

Jona Fay Solomon, passed away on May 19, 2026, in Groves, Texas. Born on January 14, 1950, in Port Arthur, Texas, she graced this world with a heart full of love and a devotion to family that defined her life and legacy.

Jona’s life was one devoted to the cherished role of homemaker, a position she embraced with unwavering dedication. Her home was a sanctuary where cooking was used to make everyone feel special. Family was the cornerstone of her existence, and she held this truth close with a resolute spirit. She was known and loved for treating each person she encountered as though they were truly unique and dear.

Her proudest accomplishments were, without doubt, being the best mother and grandmother possible. These titles she wore with immense pride, doing everything within her power to nurture and care for her loved ones. Through her actions and presence, Jona left an indelible mark on those fortunate to know her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Edgar Parish and Norma Strawn, and by her son, Bryan James Solomon. Their memories remain eternally cherished in her heart and ours.

Jona is survived by a loving family who carry forward her legacy. By her side for 58 years was her husband, John “Johnny” Solomon, Sr., of Groves. Her loving children are John David Solomon, Jr., residing in Nederland, and Christie Mires and her husband Bo of Leander, Texas. Her beloved grandchild, Brock Youngblood of Austin, will forever hold a special place in her heart. Jona also leaves behind her dear sister, Deborah Hebert of Port Neches, who shared in the joys and bonds of family life.

Jona's legacy is one enriched by love, kindness, and a ceaseless commitment to family. Her presence will be deeply missed but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she so selflessly nurtured and adored.

Messages of Love

From family and friends

John David May 20, 2026
My mom was more than a mother, she was the heartbeat of our family, the quiet strength behind every success, and the gentle comfort in every difficult moment. Her love was not loud or showy, but steady, patient, and unconditional. It was in the small things—the way she hugged you, the way she made everyone around her feel safe, valued, and deeply loved. A simple conversation, a warm meal, a reassuring smile and a piece of her homemade coconut pie, these were her gifts, and she gave them freely. She carried the burdens of others without complaint and celebrated the joys of others as if they were her own. To be loved by her was to know what true kindness looks like. She taught, not with words, but with how she lived: with grace, compassion, and unwavering devotion to the people she cared about most. Her family was her greatest pride. She poured her heart into us, shaping our lives with encouragement, and her endless love. Her presence remains in everything she gave, every memory, every act of love that continues through those she raised and cared for. So today, we do not just mourn her loss, we honor her life. We carry her forward in the way we treat one another, in the love we give, and in the memories we hold close. She was a source of love that will never fade and even though she is no longer with us, the love she gave will live on forever. Thank you, Mom. You will always be with us!

We are sending our love and prayers of comfort to you, Johnny, John, Christie and family. Jona was such a special lady. We shared so many good times. Many cups of coffee and cinnamon rolls. She was a “second mama” to my kids. Keeping all of you in our prayers. Love, Jan and Tim Collins
