Joseph Harry Lavergne, Jr., 65, of Groves, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Groves.
Joseph was born on May 18, 1957, in Port Arthur, Texas to Norma Jean Johnson and Harry J. Lavergne, Sr. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1975 and was a member of the Catholic faith. Joseph was the owner and operator of Lavergne’s Quality Lawnworks; also worked at Pabtex, P.A.I.S.D., Topco, Texas Marine Industrial Supply and Park Place Hospital. He loved to shoot his guns, was an avid book reader who loved to study history and read about it, he loved all of his dogs but especially his German Shepherds who he adored; he also was very involved in genealogy for him and many of his family members through ancestry.com. Joseph had many passions and hobbies but he mostly loved his only grandchild, Mikayla who was the “apple of his eye”. She was especially important to him over the past few months as well as the rest of his family who loved him dearly and took such good care of him during his final days.

Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Jenny Brown Lavergne of Groves; son, Joseph Lavergne, III of Groves; daughter, Christina H. Campbell and her husband Thomas of Nederland and their daughter and his only granddaughter, Mikayla Campbell; brother, James Dennis Lavergne of Hampshire, Texas,
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Norma Jean Lavergne and his two sons, Aaron Watson and Adam Tollett.
A gathering of friends and family will take place from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2023, at Melancon Funeral Home in Nederland. Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Melancon Funeral Home in Nederland with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas. After the burial, there will be a reception at the KC Hall in Groves, for family and friends.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Joseph Lavergne III, Thomas Campbell, Mark Freeman, George Brown, Norris Caillier, Mike Wilber and Arthur Mason.
