Josephine Claire Bertin Howard, 96, passed away on Saturday April 17, 2010 at Jefferson Nursing/Rehab Center in Beaumont, Texas. She was born February 28, 1914 in Abbeville, Louisiana and moved with her parents to Port Arthur, Texas as a young girl. Mrs. Howard was a graduate of Port Arthur High School and St. Mary School of Nursing in Port Arthur. She served as a Jefferson County nurse before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was preceded in death by her father, Jules Bertin, mother Ada Bertin, husband Clarence Howard, brothers, Jesse Bertin, George Bertin, Half-brothers Albert Blanchet, Alec Blanchet, sisters Marie Peveto, Ada Parker, Regina Coon and half-sister Bernadette Sharon. Mrs. Howard is survived by sons, Bertin Howard and wife Frances, Michael Howard and wife Judy, grandchildren Justin Howard, Ellen Howard, Patrick Howard, and Jennifer Howard. She was also survived by nephews George Bertin, John Peveto, and Fr. John Coon and nieces Marceline Fey, Jo Ada Arceneaux and Mickie Fanett. The family expresses it's appreciation to Dr. Hervy Hiner and his staff, Dr. Bodo Brauer and his staff and Jefferson Nursing/Rehab Center and it's staff for the care extended during her last year. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with chapel services at 11:00 A.M. on Monday April 19th conducted by Fr. John Coon of St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Texas. A viewing and visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Sunday April 18th at Levingston Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers are Justin Howard, Patrick Howard, Thad Bellanger, George Bertin, John Peveto and Valery Fey. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Port Arthur.
