June Marie "Memaw" McFarland

June Marie "Memaw" McFarland, 94, of Nederland, died Friday, December 20, 2013, at Mid Jefferson Extended Care Hospital, Nederland.
She was born on July 15, 1919 in Broken Bow, Nebraska. June was the only child of Henry and Delilah Schmidt. She moved to Port Arthur, Texas in 1938 at age 19. She was preceded in death by Thurber Buford McFarland, her husband of 39 years.
June was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a gifted painter who loved art, sewing, quilting, beading and crafts. At the age of 94 she was still hand-sewing clothes for her great grandchildren and reading books on her kindle. She loved life, and she loved her family.
June is survived by her seven children: sons, Ronnie McFarland and wife Rachel, of Anaheim, California; Paul McFarland and wife Sylvia, of Nederland, Texas; daughters, Judy Alvarez and husband Harold, of Groves, Texas; Gwen McFarland of Port Arthur, Texas; Tonya Mitchell of Nederland, Texas; Merrie Gay Taylor and her husband, Doug, of Nederland, Texas; Cheryl Mendez of Cypress, Texas; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Melancon Funeral Home in Nederland. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
