My Aunt Kookie was my mom's little sister and Mom always said she helped raise her. That's probably why they were so close and why she was my favorite aunt. Mom, Aunt Kookie and I shared a special bond in our mutual love for Elvis! When I last saw Aunt Kookie it was early December 2014 while she was in the hospital. I was about to leave for Graceland for my 50th birthday so, of course, we talked about that and Elvis. I am so thankful that I went to see her that evening, as we had a very nice visit, despite her not feeling so well. She spoke of her kids, her life in recent years and my mom. I know she was at peace with her life and was ready to leave this earth, but we are sad and will miss her very much. I wish her children and grandchildren comfort at this time of loss. She is now with her parents, Courtney, my mom, and Elvis.
