Katheryn Whelply, 90, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Monday, May 22, 2017 at Lake Arthur Place. Katheryn was born December 26, 1926 in Clarksville, Texas to William Benningfield and Margaret Cloud Benningfield. Katheryn was a longtime resident of Port Arthur and member of First Church of God. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother for her three sons whom all three are Eagle Scouts, and now her grandson is also an Eagle Scout. During World War II she worked at the Texaco Island, canning oil and grease for the war effort. Her many hobbies included quilting, canning preserves, and teaching Bible Study. Katheryn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Whelply; five brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her three sons, Donald Whelply and wife Carol of Nederland, Ronald Whelply and wife Kiersten of Bossier City, LA, Gary Whelply and wife, Kyong Cha of Port Neches; grandchildren, Megan Lesikar and husband Michael, and Jordan Whelply; great-grandchild, Shiloh Lesikar. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Keith Beckman officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
