Kathryn "Kay" D. Doucet

1954 ∼ 2024

Kathryn "Kay" D. Doucet, 70, of Groves, Texas, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 24, 1954, in Port Arthur, Texas, Kay's vibrant spirit touched the lives of many throughout her journey.

Kay dedicated 30 years of her career to Port Neches-Groves Independent School District as a choir teacher, a role she cherished deeply. Her passion for music extended beyond the classroom as she served as the choir director at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Nederland for 30 years. A member of the church for over 40 years, Kay was a God-fearing woman who walked by faith every day, embodying the values of hope and love.

A proud graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School, Class of 1972, Kay bled purple and white and held a special place in her heart for her community and the many lives she influenced. In her leisure time, Kay found joy in reading Romance novels, indulging in the heartwarming stories of the Hallmark channel, enjoying Broadway shows and musicals, and sharing laughter with family and friends through card and board games. She eagerly looked forward to spending delightful moments having coffee with her fellow retirees known as the “Taste Buds.”

Kay's life was enriched by her family, who survive her: her son, Rusty Doucet and his wife Angie of Groves, Texas; her grandchildren, Emily Quebodeaux and husband Hunter, Chloe Marks and fiancé Jayden Camp, and Matthew Edwards; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Kaysen, and Sage. She is also survived by her brothers, Greg Davis and his wife Patsy, and Gary Davis and his wife Lisa; her sisters, Julie LaChance and husband Gary; Jamie Lavender and husband Allen; sister-in-law, Jennifer Davis; and stepmother, Judith Davis.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother and stepfather, Dixie and Michael Casey; her father, BF "Rusty" Davis; her husband, Curtis Weldon Doucet, Jr.; and her brother, Kenneth Davis.

Kay's life was marked by her unwavering love for family and friends, her dedication to teaching, and her enthusiasm for bringing joy to others. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and warmth that will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, located at 5601 39th St, Groves, Texas 77619. The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM, also at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, followed by the interment at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.

Memorial donations may be made to:  The Lamar University Foundation, P.O. Box 11500, Beaumont, TX 77710, for the Doucet Memorial Scholarship.

I am so sorry to hear of Kay’s passing. Phil just contacted me about it. I was stationed with Teapot in Japan and drove down from Temple to attend his funeral. She was a very nice lady and will be missed by family and friends. We went through Beaumont years ago and my family and Teapot and Kay met at Sartin’s. We had a great time with much seafood. Deepest condolences to all the family and friends but her and Teapot are having a great time in heaven. RIP, Kay.

I can only imagine the beautiful and joyful reunion. When our family would get together, the laughter and happiness flowed! Her beautiful soul will be missed. (I can't remember what we were doing in this pic, but I'm sure we were being silly with Dad!) Our Christmases together were always so much fun.

My sister Kay had such a big love for her family and her friends. She is remembered by so many for her years teaching, mentoring and serving with a grateful heart. When the words are spoken that someone you love has passed, your system is shocked. The only way for me to cope with that loss is to know that she was surrounded by nothing but complete love as she entered Heaven, seeing family and friends that have gone on, her precious husband Curtis and being wrapped in Jesus's warm embrace. That was one amazing reunion I'm sure! Now, her glorious voice is singing praises all the day long!

I enjoyed being a faculty member w/Kay @ RW Elementary in PN. She was a joy to work with and I considered her a talented friend. I fondly recall the duet that she & Curtis sang of “Hopelessly Devoted” from Grease in a RW program that was so well done and very touching! She will be missed. RIP & Fly High Sweet Songbird🐦🪺

Kay was a year behind me in high school and we became great friends in the classes we shared together. Such a positive influence on me and so many others. She had no problem telling me when I was wrong and I had no problem accepting her opinion because I valued it so. Thank You for your friendship Kay and all of the beautiful music over the years!
Jean Hughes Heubach December 18, 2024
Kay and Curtis joined Trinity Presbyterian Church in Port Neches around 1980. Kay played the piano and Curtis lead the choir. They were an amazing couple. After awhile they adopted a beautiful red headed baby boy and named him Rusty. I can remember how happy and proud they were to be parents. After Curtis death, Kay took over the choir and had remained director until Sunday, presenting her last Cantata. She was the church’s most prominent person, serving as the head of the church’s board and leading the choir, writing the letters to the congregation in every news letter. She always knew what to say for each month and always had a great inspiration to everyone. She will truly be missed.
