Kathy J. Nelson, 68, of Port Neches, Texas joined her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 6, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Kathy was born October 22, 1954 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Paul Davis and Perry Jean Gathright.
Kathy was a member of First Methodist Church of Nederland. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Kathy retired from Louisiana public schools after sixteen years of service as an Elementary School Teacher and Middle School Librarian. She also worked as a Librarian in Beaumont for many years. Kathy loved and adored her grandchildren and had a love for flowers, especially Day Lilies.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Davis Gathright and Perry Jean (Goodwin) Gathright.
Those left behind to cherish Kathy’s memory are her loving husband of forty-six years, Billy E. Nelson of Port Neches, Texas; sons, Nate Nelson and his wife, Anna of Dana Point, California; Samuel Nelson and his wife, Sarah of Port Neches, Texas; grandchildren, Nathaniel Nelson, Noah Nelson, Spencer Nelson, Harper Nelson, Isla Nelson, Paul Davis Nelson and Oliver Nelson; sister, Cynthia Gathright.
Serving as pallbearers include Nate Nelson, Samuel Nelson, Nathaniel Nelson, Noah Nelson, Spencer Nelson and Harper Nelson; honorary pallbearer, Paul Davis Nelson.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 p.m., at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
