Ken and I really grew to understand and respect one another over the years; so much so that we became friends. People who ordinarily would not mix. About a year ago, riding my bicycle, I heard a motorcycle rolling slowly up behind me - it was Ken. He smiled and looked over at me as we rolled along together for a few seconds. He gave me an approving chin-up before roaring off with a laugh. I encountered him, and Jenny, in the parking lot on Nederland Ave; I'd had a flat on my bike and he wanted to make sure I was OK and didn't need help. I always enjoyed talking to Ken, and really appreciated his attentive, fully-present, listening. Ken was a good guy - I sure will miss our chats (but I sense he'll be riding with me more often now).

Ken never judged me and always let me make my own decisions after some suggestions. He was always the calm in the middle of the storm. No one could ever replace you! Grateful for the time I had with you. Harper and I will miss you! Love you buddy! Bree

Ken was the first to welcome me when I began my recovery journey. He would always put the newcomers first because he was always mindful that recovery from alcoholism was a life and death matter. Yet, Ken had the ability to "wear life as a loose garment." There's always going to be an empty chair at the meetings, Ken, for you will never be forgotten. See you when I get there.

So many wonderful memories with Ken. All the way from high school, our double dates my husband and I had with him, through the "halls", through my mother's death, and matching motorcycles. He always said "if you're scared, say you're scared". What a great person he was, he touched many many people. We are all blessed.

Ken was one of the very first faces I came to know at 908 Boston. I was only 23 years old then. I remember hearing him share about living in the sunlight of the spirit. When I made my way back to that room 19 months ago, I was 44 and there he was still sharing his experience, strength, and hope. He had a new demeanor about him. He had more peace, more joy. Last time I saw him, he was standing on the front porch asking me about our long time friend, Dickie. Then he smiled real big and told me about Jenny. He seemed to be happy with life as it was. My heart goes out to all who will miss him. I'm glad he got to be part of my journey too. Fly high Ken. What a day you must having now my friend.
