Kris Lavern Felps

February 1, 1952 — August 1, 2023

Kris Lavern Felps, 71, of Groves, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at The Medical Center of SETX in Port Arthur.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.

Kris was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on February 1, 1952, to Willard Lavern Felps and Juanita Hicks -Felps. He worked in the refinery doing construction work for most of his life. Playing the guitar was his passion. He taught others to play as well. He was very particular about his yard, and some would say he was the obsessive-compulsive lawn mowing neighbor. He loved his kids, but his grandchildren were his world. He was so proud of his grandson Damian for joining the Army and becoming an Apache Helicopter Mechanic and his granddaughter Hannah for going to college and being able to handle her fast car (he loved that car). Preslee had him wrapped around her finger from listening to her music “thank God he was hard of hearing” or doing silly snap chats. He loved that baby so much. He would always talk about his grandkids saying “Aubrie was the best softball player and man she can hit that ball” . He would bring Aubrie candy so often he was told not to anymore so he would be sneaky and hide it in his hat like we couldn’t see it sticking out the back. In the afternoon he would pick up his grandson Lil Eddie and he would always be first in line because lil Eddie didn’t like to be second. He enjoyed going to the PNG football games to watch and listen to Hunter in the band. He would sit right next to the band so he could see and talk to her. He was very proud of Ravon in how far he had come in his recovery from a traumatic brain injury. Kris was a big flirt, just ask his wife and ex-wives. He was trying to teach Aiden how to be a flirt so he would call him Romeo and always joked with him about girls. Alex Oh Alex let’s just say Pawpaw was happy to finally get his lawn mower back. He would talk about Alex and his dirt bike racing skills. He will forever be in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kyle Ray Felps; James Kelly Felps; and his sister, Vickie Carroll Felps.

He is survived by his wife Mary Felps of Groves, TX; daughters, Kristina Renee` Hester and husband Wes of Batson, TX; Dawn Michelle Ward and husband Billy of Groves, TX; Konnie Pinson and husband James of Nederland, TX; and Kristie Marie Romero and husband Eddie IV of Groves, TX; step children, Chris Long of Vidor, TX; Richard Savant and wife Jennifer of Beaumont, TX; Terry De Gregory and wife Patricia of Mauriceville, TX; and Amy Williams and husband Zel of Vidor, TX; grandchildren, Alex, Hannah, Aubrie, Ravon, Hunter, Aidan, Damian, Preslee, Eddie V, Terry, Logan, Lexi, Jordyn, Cameran, and twins on the way; his sisters, Ianita Verlene Felps of Port Arthur, TX; and Valerie Ellen Thibodeaux and husband Joe of Kirbyville, TX; and his brother, Kevin Allan Felps of Port Arthur, TX.
