Larry Louis Kern

1935 ∼ 2021

Larry Louis Kern, 86, of Groves, Texas passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 at his home.

He was born in Port Arthur, Texas on January 14, 1935 to Howard Louis Kern and Ruth Williams Kern.

Larry was a lifelong area resident and member of Grace Baptist Church (formerly Friendship Baptist Church).

He retired from Texaco Research as an Operator after 37 years of service.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Larry and Laura loved spending their time fishing, either at their camp on Toledo Bend or chasing specks on Sabine Lake.

He enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Larry was a great woodworker and would make his family anything as long as they would show him a picture of it.

His love for the Lord and family was unwavering.

Larry was a true American, he even loved America's Team, the Cowboys!

A visitation for family and friends be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with a Military graveside service to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ruth Kern, his wife of 60 years, Laura Kern, son, Howard Kern, great grandson, Haylon Llewellyn, sister, Helen Peveto and brother, Hardy Kern.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Wilson and husband Ronnie of Buna, Texas and Kathy Lester and husband Tim of Lumberton, Texas, sister, Theresa Conner of Port Neches, Texas, sister in law, Christine Kern of Sarver, Pennsylvania, grandchildren, Hillary Matthews and husband Harley, Heather Howell and husband Joel, Heidi Brown and husband Justin, Kalea Nelson and Luis, Krista Baer and husband Jackson and Kristopher Kern, twelve great grandchildren with one more on the way and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Heart of Texas Hospice for their wonderful care of Larry.
