Laura Belle Metts, 90, of Nederland, Texas passed away surrounded by family and friends on July 1, 2013 at the Oak Grove Nursing Home in Groves. She was born on November 3, 1922 in Moscow, Kansas to the late Lauren and Ethel McNicol Joy. Laura was a member of First Christian Church in Port Arthur, TX.
Laura was the loving mother of her sons, Dave Metts and wife, Karen of Bella Vista, Arkansas, James Metts and wife, Ramona of Nederland, TX, and Richard Metts and wife, Darlene of Freeport, TX; cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; devoted sister of Lorene Dunlap of Ewrin, Tennessee, William “Bud” Joy of Porter, TX, Richard Joy and his wife, Ethel of Teague, TX, and Richard Dean Joy and his wife, Saundra “Sissy” of Houston, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Laura is preceded in by her parents; her husband, Harry J. Metts; and her son, Gary D. Metts.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the McNutt Cemetery in Conroe, TX. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, TX.
