Lawrence R. Root, Jr.

Lawrence R. Root, Jr. 83 of Groves died Friday September 7, 2012 at Mid Jefferson Extended Care Hospital in Nederland. Lawrence was born on March 20, 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas to Lawrence R. Root, Sr. and Alice Worthy Root. He was a lifelong resident of Groves and spent 25 years in Jasper, Texas loving his farm and the people of Jasper, before returning home to Groves. He retired from Gulf Oil Refinery with 35 years of service. Lawrence was preceded in death by his step mother Sallie Root. Lawrence is survived by his wife Mary Ann Root of Groves; two daughters Peggy McMourrough and husband Joe of Jasper, Texas and Linda Baumgartner and husband Terry of Houston, Texas; four sons Ronald Root and wife Angie of Groves, Donald Root of Lufkin, Texas, Glenn Root and wife Terry of Groves and Larry Root and wife Rebecca of Brookeland, Texas; one brother Gary Root and wife Judy of Tyler, Texas; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two great- great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
