Lilly was one of eleven children. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1947, married the love of her life James Robert Ledford Sr. on July 1, 1950. They were married for sixty-two years at the time of James death. She started working at a grocery store delivering groceries on a bicycle and later worked her way up to office manager. She later took in sewing for the public but always was happy making clothes for the family. Later after the kids were in high school, she went back to work managing the bakery at Howard’s Food Center. She retired after twenty years as the bakery manager and master cake decorator certification. She and James loved to go camping and fishing and in the later years going to the Casino’s it was the highlight of the week. Raising her children was the most important job of her life. She and James believed if their kids weren’t allowed to go somewhere they wouldn’t go either. Together they raised four children, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters. She loved taking a five-generation picture.

She was preceded in death by her husband Captain James Robert Ledford Sr, her parents, Dallas, and Anna Oliver, her in laws, Rudolph and Gladsy Ledford, seven siblings, Johnny, Cleve, Dallas and Marion Oliver, Alda Glaze, Irma Bell Oliver and Anna Cricket Johnson.

She is survived by three of her siblings, Marie Woods, Shirley Wallace, and Vernon Oliver, her children, James R. Ledford Jr. of Sour Lake, TX; Anna Breaux and husband Dennis of Port Arthur, TX; Theresa Marilyn Dutton and husband Timothy of Buffalo, TX; Michael E. Ledford and wife Cara of Groves, TX; and a very special nephew, John (Buddy) Oliver and his wife Dodie and their children, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Aunt Lilly and Uncle Jim were immensely important figures in our relationship when Dana and I first met and continued to be influential through the years. Our sadness at losing Aunt Lilly is tempered by the knowledge that they are together again.

I met Lilly when I was 19 and she was in her 40's. She left quite an impression on me. She had a bold personality and was filled with vitality. Let's say that she was a "force of nature" for sure. Over the many years we grew a long lasting love and respect for one another. I will always cherish her last words to me. She said that I was a wonderful mother and she thanked me for raising her grandsons to go to church every Sunday and to have respect for others. I pray for all of the Ledford family to have comfort and peace knowing that Lilly has gone home to be with the Lord after a very long and full life. She will be missed. I love you guys. Sandra
