Linda Kay Chiasson Fontenot

1948 ∼ 2025

Linda Kay Chiasson Fontenot, a cherished mother, grandmother, and devoted wife, passed away on January 11, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Born on September 25, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas, Linda's journey through life was marked by her unwavering love for family and her commitment to her community.

Linda dedicated many years of her life to her career as a secretary at the TDCJ Stiles, where her positive spirit and diligent work ethic earned her the respect of her colleagues. After retiring in 2001, she embraced her new chapter in life with grace and enthusiasm.

An active member of her spiritual community, Linda was a former member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and proudly became a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Jasper. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through both joyful and challenging times.

Linda's early years were marked by her spirited involvement in extracurricular activities. She was a majorette at Bishop Byrne High School, where she graduated in 1966. Her participation as a member of the Colleens at Bishop Byrne High School showcased her vibrant personality and dedication to her school.

Throughout her life, Linda had a profound passion for cooking and sewing, often delighting her family with homemade meals and cherished handcrafted items. She loved spending time with her husband of 57 years, John Fontenot, and their three children: Melissa Fontenot Smith and her husband Steven, Jeff Fontenot and his wife Brandy, and Dr. Brian Fontenot, PhD and his wife Jayme. Her legacy continues with her beloved grandchildren: Lason Smith, Syann Smith, Jillian Fontenot, Emily Fontenot, and Dakota Smith, who will carry her spirit with them always.

Linda is reunited in everlasting peace with her parents, Percy and Alzina Chiasson, and her dear brother, Louis "Pete" Chiasson. She also joins her sisters, Faye Chiasson Sassine and Charlotte Sue Chiasson Bassett, in the embrace of heavenly reunion.

A visitation will be held in her honor on January 17, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas 77627, where family and friends are invited to share their cherished memories of Linda, celebrating the extraordinary life she led.

Sending huge love & prayers for unending comfort & peace to my sweet Uncle Johnny, Melissa, Jeff & Brian and to all loved ones. May the Lord bring constant healing to your hearts at this difficult time. Aunt Linda was beautiful inside & out! She handcrafted countless customized windsocks for Mom (Dinah) and I through the years & became famous for her amazing work that touched everyone that saw them! So many have been blessed because of her incredible talent. I will always treasure the emails & texts we shared... She is so very loved & cherished & so greatly missed! I love you, Aunt Linda!

Everything from patriotic to L.S.U,Saints, animals, birds, flowers, eagles, Christmas, Easter & many more. She could make anything requested!! Molly was also a fan & ordered from her. I have such love & admiration for her.She called me “Sis-in-Law”.♥️ She was a beautiful light in this world & will be missed by so many. Heaven is now her home!!! Every time I look at this A&M windsock she made for Tyce when he was a baby, I think of you Aunt Linda…& I’m so blessed that your heart and hands touched something that was a gift for my sweet boy that I love so dearly! Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She watches over the activities of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also, and he praises her, saying “Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.” Proverbs 31:25-29
